About
Father Tree and Tree Child set sail
for their first journey in search of a new world!

In this children’s music theater piece, actor-musicians cross the boundaries between acting, singing, and live gugak performance!
Based on the Korean folk story “Tree Child and the Flood,” Tree’s Child is a story about a boy with an unusual father and how he comes to grips with the world. The production unravels their story with live performance by cast members playing Korean traditional instruments. This children’s music theater piece combines simple and plain language and the live performance of the actor-musicians to broaden the imagination of young audiences.
※ The 2020 production of Tree’s Child is a revamped and expanded version of the Tree’s Child showcase (November 2, 2019) under the 2019 ACC Asian Story Children’s Content Project.
Story
A boy lies curled up crying under a gigantic tree...

The boy is Tree Child. He is constantly bullied for having a tree as his father. Mocked and ridiculed by others, Tree Child lives alone and friendless. However, he refuses to leave the tree, his beloved father. Tree Child stands by his father, watering him and chasing bugs away. Father Tree casts a shadow for his son, and lets him climb on his boughs to see the world from above.
However, their happiness ends so abruptly... One day, the sky cracks open and a hard rain falls!

Their world and everything in it is swept away in a gigantic flood, including Father Tree and Tree Child, who now must set sail for their first journey in search of a new world. Where will the journey take them?
