Square: Beyond The Movement
In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Uprising, the ACC hosts an exhibition entitled Square: Beyond The Movement.

The exhibition seeks to share the spirit and values of democracy, human rights, and peace with the public and spread them across the world. It features an installation piece at the center representing the fountain at the Democracy Plaza, and the mirror-light media that visually captures the scars and conflicts left around the plaza.

The kinetic art and interaction projection mapping pieces created by the artists are powered by state-of-the-art media technology comprised of three directorial approaches. The pieces suggest different meanings and interpretations for visitors depending on their positions.
About the Works
WORMHOLE, 2020. Mixed Media
The Democracy Plaza in 2020 shows a trajectory of old wounds and healing over four decades. The water fountain at the plaza serves as a wormhole that sends our thoughts across time and space. The piece is, in a way, an homage to the water fountain.

Today’s visitors embark on a journey across time and space at the exhibition. They discover themselves anew, through breathtaking history and tending to old wounds. Lights breathe, opening up new spaces. A wormhole opens, guiding visitors into an infinite and transcendental space. Visitors also see their reflections in the large mirror, which shows who they are and lets them discover what they are today.

Circle of Cure, 2020. Interaction Projection Mapping
Monochrome lines and particles representing conflicts move around the fountain at the center, leaving numerous trails behind.

Visitors freely walk in and out of the pieces, as if they were a part of them. However, the lines (wounds) and particles (conflicts) part ways before them as if refusing healing and reconciliation. However, the particles come together once again to become flower petals, and the monochrome petals gather around visitors in fantastic blooms, achieving true healing and reconciliation.
