Introduction
2022 ACC Media Arts Lab. Media façade
< Behind the Wall >
The hall of Media Wall/Media Cube recreates fixed and static façade into a dynamic space. In particular, the screen deviates from a typical flat form to an ever-evolving shape, creating a new space in its unique way. It is multi-functional: it blends in with Mother Nature, creates a performing stage, and transforms into a new imaginative place.

Asia Culture Center (ACC) exhibits convergent media artworks displayed in combination with the center’s iconic square, Media Wall, and escalator, Media Cube, located in front of Haneul Madang.
Themed Behind the Wall; The Space Beyond the façade, the exhibition showcases another space (extended reality) behind the LED screen of Media Wall.
Three large Media Wall art pieces and two escalator media works will be on view, inviting viewers to experience both real and virtual spaces that transcends reality.

A Prefabricated Scene
Moon Chang Hwan
<A Prefabricated Scene> is a spatial digital animation that was recreated from Gwangju’s old animal tales, displaying scenic scenes of Mudeungsan, tiger, python, bird, and horse. Combining Gwangju’s native local data with a newly created story, the work consists of three narrative structures that show the tension among animals that oppose one another. It symbolizes a social structure with its analogy of dozens of people conflicting with animals with different characteristics over several decades, signifying how people form raw and instinctive relationships with one another. It is in the instinct of humanity to make a living by living in a community. As the communal life in the present society extends to a virtual world beyond our offline life, this exhibition aims to create a story of our lives in a virtual world, Mudeung, by redefining the veiled relationships between individuals and also between animals.
Beyond the Dimension
Lee Hyunmin
The relationship between individuals is never two-dimensional. In contrast, social influence created and shared in a relationship is three-dimensional, similar to unexpected byproducts that stems and expands from the Z-axis. Through an optical illusion deploying the law of perspective and movement of dancers that take place in a two-dimensional flat image, it aims to show social relationships and influences in three-dimensional video works that deviates from a typically flat composition.
9, Cloud, Dream
Cho Youngkak
It is composed using AI technology by adapting < gu-un-mong >, a Korean novel from the Joseon Dynasty, from a modern perspective, and adding 3D animation-like temporal and spatial interpretation based on the text. Production is a video novel created by artificial intelligence by using the dramatized text of the original as a database and using this data as a text-prompt.
The original text of this work is based on Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, and it reconstructs the literary works described on the boundary between reality and dreams through the process of going through the action of various neural networks. By applying the text in each sentence as parameters of video and music, it is produced with an artificial intelligence algorithm-based generator. This is a kind of second work that converts past literary works (copyright expired, use of shared works) into contemporary works by interpretation of other subjects. In addition, the painting style of the Joseon Dynasty in which the text was written is implemented as an image, but it focuses on implementing the effects of the Unreal Engine in the image for the 3D space. Finally, a separate extended video is configured so that viewers can enjoy it through the AR application.
Various Farewell
Cirkle(Jun Minsoo)
“Terrible things happen to you but don't forget only through our sorrow can we cheat happiness. There will be no special reason for the breakup just like the meeting was.”
Just as there are various new relationships, farewells also come in different shapes and stories—viewers of the exhibition also meet and part away through various connections and coincidences. With the combination of video, music, space, and perfume, All Farewells Considered is an exhibition designed to be remembered for a long time by inviting viewers to an unforgettable multisensory and spatial realm with visual entertainment, auditory stimuli from multi-channel sound, and olfactory experience.
Now You See Me
PROME(Lee Sujin)
Due to wider use of social media, meaning of a work often ends up being confined in a two-dimensional square space called ‘pics’, rather than being pondered upon. This work is a story about the meaning beyond the two-dimensional walls. A wall is a severance and a barricade that sets a limit that cannot be crossed. But what if the wall collapses? What lies beyond the wall? There are no limits. Thoughts surfacing from the square space evolves into inspiration, carving out a new world. Thoughts from others and I combine and form a new world beyond space. Time in that ‘world beyond’ does not matter. When incompatible standpoints blend in, we suddenly arrive at a world of transcendence with no end in sight. There are no more walls—only ‘the world beyond’ exists.
