A Digital Window Interacts
Sound Slope is part of the Sound Wall, a participatory media facade exhibition, designed by ACC Media Art Lab in 2022. This fall, visitors will be able to enjoy Sound Slope once again.

This work has utilized hangeul, the Korean alphabet system, as the main theme of the exhibition, featuring the following characters of Hangeul:

Geometric characters (squares, circles, straight lines, etc.)
Architectural characters (assembly of the initial consonant, medial vowel, and final consonant)
Identical sound and characters (sounds and characters matching)

Letters in this work have been represented as a medium that convey meanings and the principle of making sounds. Letters are seen as not only communicative tools, but also a system for delivering artistic inspiration.
Sound Slope actively makes use of the structural features of the Media Cube. It is an audience-participatory audiovisual artwork that creates sounds and changes images in real-time according to the letters input by the audience.

Sound Slope
This work, displayed on the screen installed at the Media Cube escalator, deconstructs the fundamental forms behind the creation of hangeul—circles (symbolizing the sky), squares (representing the land), and triangles (symbolizing people). The work accepts texts input through mobile devices. The texts are then displayed on the screen, then deconstructed into circles, squares, and triangles, eventually falling down the escalator. The screen also features multiple obstacles, which collide with shapes and generate sounds. These sounds are played through a 24-speaker sound system installed in the Media Cube, allowing the audience to enjoy the 3D audio effect.

Artists
Tacit Group
Tacit Group was formed in 2008 as an audiovisual performance group that pursues creating new art for the 21st century. The team is centered around composer Jang Jae-ho and electronic musician Gazaebal (Lee Jin-won). The group performs globally, based on their main stage Seoul.
The group takes audiovisual art as its main content and the basis for its contemporary and experimental expansions, from multimedia performances to interactive installations and music albums.
Their works, such as “Hun-Min-Jeong-Ak,” “Game Over,” and “Morse ㅋung ㅋung,” combine a systematic worldview weaved through intuitive materials and technology inspired by games, text messages, chats, and other items from one’s daily life. Notably, their use of structural aesthetics and the communicative power of characters has won the group acclaim.
