This reimagining of the origin story of China’s Spring Festival tells the tragic story of the friendship between a boy and a monster named Yeon.
This multi-genre theater production enriches its story with shadow play, lion dances, video, animation, and music.
※ The 2020 production of YEON – The Story of Monster is a revamped version of YEON – The Story of Monster showcase (November 5, 2019, PlayHouse) under the 2019 ACC Asian Story Children’s Content Project.
Story
Painters tell an old story from China that they heard while traveling around the country.

The story recounts the lasting friendship between a boy from a village in ancient China, and Yeon, the boy’s friend from one of his drawings.

The boy leaves the village after years of ill treatment by the villagers, and Yeon appears at the village a year later to keep his promise. The villagers attack Yeon, thinking he must be a monster...

The Befu
Formed on May 30, 1997, The Befu is an NPO registered with the Seoul Metropolitan Government (No. 46), a registered art organization (No. 27), a social enterprise registered with the Ministry of Labor and Employment (No.2011-117), and an outstanding social economic enterprise named by the Seoul Metropolitan Government (No. 2019-04). The Befu creates culture and art education programs and theater projects for people of all ages.
Note
  • For a more pleasant experience, children under five are not allowed in the theater. Customers with children may be asked to present a document indicating the children’s birth of date. Please have the document ready. A child under said age is not allowed in the theater even when accompanied by a parent or an adult guardian.
  • For this production, a single person can book up to four tickets.
  • In order to ensure the best experiences for our visitors, the Asia Culture Center maintains a strict policy on age restrictions, late arrivals and photography during performance. You are liable for the issues caused by your failure to fully adhere to the theater regulations.
  • You can claim or purchase tickets from one hour before the show. The theater opens 30 minutes before the show begins. Once the show begins, you may not be allowed to enter the theater. Please make sure to arrive at the theater at least ten minutes in advance.
Full Schedule
The Asia Culture Center helps children develop their imagination and understanding of cultural diversity by producing and presenting theatrical projects that utilize the rich cultural resources at the center.

The ACC Asian Story Children’s Content Project features productions created by selected artists based on Asian stories. The productions were showcased in October and November 2019 after workshops and mentoring sessions. Between February and July 2020, the ACC presents the final versions of the productions, which improve on the showcased versions based on feedback from audiences and experts.

The featured theater productions will help young audiences broaden their imagination by familiarizing them with stories from Kazakhstan, India, Tajikistan, and other Asian countries. We look forward to seeing you at the theater!
