About
Three Friends is a theater production for children that asks one of the questions that adults have long forgotten, but children are always curious about.
“A Story of Three Friends” is a folktale of Kazakhstan nomads that answers children’s questions about nature through cuddly baby animal characters.
This simple yet beautiful story celebrates nature, life, and the wisdom of Kazakhstan and its people. Even though it takes place in a strange land, the story evokes a familiar sentiment that we can all relate to. The wonderful “simplicity” of the story also has implications for our questions about puppet theater creation. We hope this production will awaken the inner child in grown-ups and connect with our young audiences.

※ The 2020 production of Three Friends is a revamped version of theThree Friends showcase (October 23, 2019, Playhouse) under the 2019 ACC Asian Story Children’s Content Project.
Story
“Where does the Sun hide beyond the mountains every night?”
A baby goat, a baby lamb, and a baby cow sneak past shepherds and set out on an adventure across the great plains. Their goal is to find the answer to their question: where does the Sun hide at night?During the journey, the three friends face many obstacles and crises, which culminate with an encounter with a wolf. After overcoming the obstacles, the friends return home across the vast land.  Everything seems fine... except for one small problem. What could it be?

The Asia Culture Center helps children develop their imagination and understanding of cultural diversity by producing and presenting theatrical projects that utilize the rich cultural resources at the center.

The ACC Asian Story Children’s Content Project features productions created by selected artists based on Asian stories. The productions were showcased in October and November 2019 after workshops and mentoring sessions. Between February and July 2020, the ACC presents the final versions of the productions, which improve on the showcased versions based on feedback from audiences and experts.

The featured theater productions will help young audiences broaden their imagination by familiarizing them with stories from Kazakhstan, India, Tajikistan, and other Asian countries. We look forward to seeing you at the theater!
