Theater Classic
Think of Me (from the musical The Phantom of the Opera)
This song launched Jeong’s career as a musical actor in 1994. It was one of the songs that she had to perform in the second audition for the ACOM Musical Actor School run by ACOM, Korea’s first musical production company. After winning the audition, she went through eight months of training and finally starred in the original musical I Will Be a Star! as an ensemble member.

When You‘re Good to Mama (from the musical Chicago)
In Chicago in the 1920’s, everything was possible with money. The musical revolves around a woman who commits murder but still dreams of being a star. The story is bizarre, but plausible given the time and place. The song is performed by Mama Morton, a corrupt prison warden, who offers a lesson on what “tit-for-tat” means in prison life.
Summer Time (from the opera Porgy and Bess)
“Summer Time” is from Porgy and Bess, an opera composed by the American composer George Gershwin. The song is a lullaby performed by the lead character Clara, who lives in a slum in the 1930’s United States. In this heart-warming song, Clara celebrates the plentifulness of summer, and promises to always keep her baby safe.
Cinema Classics
Never Enough (from the film The Greatest Showman)
This song is from The Greatest Showman, a film about the founding father of American showbiz, P. T. Barnum. In “Never Enough,” Jenny Lind, a soprano from Sweden, confesses her love for Barnum. In this concert, the song is delivered with Jeong Youngju’s full and soft voice.
He Was Beautiful (from the film The Deer Hunter)
A song featured in the 1978 film, The Deer Hunter. The song’s heart-wrenching melody and lyrical tone brings back old memories. The song has a special meaning for Jeong as well, as it was one of her father’s favorites.
The Sound of Music (from the film The Sound of Music)
This song is featured in The Sound of Music, the musical masterpiece. It is the song sung by Maria in that iconic scene of her running up the hill in the Alps. After hearing its beautiful harmony celebrating the beauty of nature, the Colonel finally opens up his heart to her.
Classics with a Friend
A New Life (from the musical Jekyll & Hyde)
A rendition of “A New Life” from the musical Jekyll & Hyde by actor Lee Youngmi, who played Lucy in the Korean version of the musical. Lucy receives a letter from Jekyll. She realizes that is the end of their love, and she decides to leave London for a new life.
Callus (from the musical Mee on the Song)
A musical number from the cabaret musical Mee on the Song. It was written and composed by Lee Youngmi. In this ballad of consolation, callus serves as a metaphor for scars left by love and life itself.
Duet Classics
Shallow (from the film A Star is Born)
This duet was sung in A Star is Born, a remake of the 1937 film of the same name. In this film, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga debuted as director and actor, respectively. In the concert, Jeong Youngju and Lee Youngmi present a new version of the song, which was originally sung by the male and female leads of the film.
Tell Him (Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion)
This duet was originally sung by two of the most iconic divas in the world: Barbra Streisand and Celine Dione. Expect the best harmony created by the vocal prowess of these two outstanding Korean singers.
Immortal Classics
“Chilgapsan” (Yun Heesang)
Written and composed by Jo Unpa, “Chilgapsan” is a folk-style melody that sings of the ordeals and sorrows of slash-and-burn farmers in the old days. In this concert, Jeong Youngju sings of the life of women through this song.
“Invisible Love” (Shin Seunghun)
Released in 1991 by singer Shin Seunghun, this song was the first Korean pop song featuring a classical element. Jeong’s strong vocal adds emotional depth to this heart-wrenching love song.
“It Is the Wind” (Jung Sura)
This song was released in 1983 by Jung Sura. Jeong performed this song in the TV show Immortal Songs, where the composer of the song lauded her performance for adding charisma and depth to the original. Jeong’s performance is different from Jung Sura’s version, yet it is equally enchanting.
