Introduction
Having a long-standing connection with Korea, they brighten the New Year like a bluebird heralding its arrival.
In the history of Western music, Vienna, Austria, has been a cultural capital for centuries, with the reputation of the Vienna Court Music Ensemble, along with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera, still upheld today.
Over its 500-year history, countless musicians have been part of the Vienna Boys Choir. In 2025, as it celebrates its 527th anniversary, the choir’s unique tradition and musical excellence are recognized as it is inscribed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Although the choir represents Vienna, it has had Korean conductors and members from around the world throughout its history, including several Korean singers, and it remains active in various musical endeavors.
Welcome the New Year of 2025 with the pure tones and beautiful harmonies of the boy sopranos visiting the ACC.

- The Vienna Boys Choir is one of the most famous and oldest choirs in the world. The boys began singing in the Vienna Imperial Chapel in 1296, and in 1498, Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I established the Vienna Boys Choir as the resident court choir after moving his court to Vienna to build the chapel. Over the centuries, the Vienna court supported musicians such as Mozart and Bruckner, and notable figures like Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn, and Franz Schubert were also members of the choir. By 1924, the choir was reestablished as a nonprofit private organization.
The Vienna Boys Choir operates its own campus, which includes elementary, middle, and high school programs, and is divided into four separate choirs. Each choir tours the world for about 10 weeks a year, performing around 300 concerts annually to an audience of approximately 500,000 people worldwide. Since 1924, the choir has conducted over 1,000 tours across 100 countries, with 2,750 choir members participating.
The Vienna Boys Choir has performed with prominent conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Christian Thielemann, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Joana Mallwitz, and Simone Young, alongside major orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and Staatskapelle Berlin. Since their first recording in 1907, the choir has produced 377 shellac records, LPs, and CDs. Numerous films and documentaries about the Vienna Boys Choir further highlight their distinguished international career.
