CHOREOGRAPHER LAB OPEN CALL  - Extension of the Period

1. Overview

  • Subject: A new production that displays contemporary Asian perspectives, values, and discourse
  • Target and Field: Choreographers from Asian countries with experience creating reinterpretations of traditional dance and experience in modern dance (English proficiency required)
  • Qualification: Experience with more than 3 productions (at about 20 minutes each)
  • Residency Period: August to October 2019 (3 months)

4. Schedule

  • Residency & Project Participation period: August to October 2019 / 3 months
  • ※ Details on residency and the showcase schedule will be announced later.

  • ※ Accepted applicants will be notified individually.
  • ※ The above schedule is subject to change depending on the situation of the Asia Culture Institute.

5. Benefits

  • Production Fee: 10,000,000 KRW per person
  • ※ Includes cast/collaborator hiring fee, showcase production fee, materials fee, etc.
  • Accommodations: provided to non-residents in Gwangju
  • One round-trip flight:  Provided only to participants residing from outside of Korea
  • ※ Koreans living abroad must submit the Certificate of Entry & Exit.
  • Dance studio provided for 2 months of the production period (September to October 2019)

6. Screening Method & Schedule

  • Screening Method: Panel of non-ACI experts
  • Screening Process
  • Receive recommendation letter and applications → 1st round of screening → 2nd round Skype interview → Announce final result
  • Final result: 3rd week of July 2019
  • ※ Successful applicants notified individually.
  • ※ The above schedule is subject to change depending on the situation of the Asia Culture Institute.

  • ※ Should be written by schools, associations, institutions, professors, and others that can officially prove applicants' skills
    ※ All documents will not be returned.

8. Submission

  • Submission Period: June 12 (Wed) ~ July 8 (Mon), 2019
  • Submission Deadline: Only the applications arriving by July 8 (Mon), 23:59 PM will be accepted.

    ※ For overseas applicants, the deadline is based on Korea Standard Time.

  • Submission Method: Email submission (asiacomm@aci-k.kr)

9. Restrictions

  • If the same project is supported by other institution at the same time.
  • If participating or planning to participate in another residency program during this project.

10.  Remark

  • If the submitted documents exclude information intentionally or include falsehoods, there may be cancellation of the application and other disadvantages.
  • All intellectual property rights and copyrights for creative works belong to the creator, and ACI has usage rights.
  • The creator is solely responsible for conflicts over intellectual property rights occur with others.
  • ※ Selection will be cancelled if ideas of others are plagiarized or intellectual property rights of others are violated.
  • If the project receives support from another institution at the same time, the support from ACI will be cancelled. The selection will be cancelled if found to be receiving support from another institution.
