Big Door Cinema

May is the month of relaxation and enjoyment of spring going and summer going. People are usually excited about warmer days with a nice summer breeze but what activities can you do outdoor? Some people like relaxing home by just watching a movie or taking a good nap. Thinking of these, Asia Culture Center has organized an outdoor screening program ‘Big Door Cinema’ where people can enjoy watching great musicals, performances, talk shows, movies. They can enjoy the performances totally for free of charge and from May to September, every month at least two times.

First of all, the first performance has been on May 18th Saturday at 8 p.m. Although the weather was a little bit cool, the performance atmosphere was very great. People brought snacks, drinks, and blankets with which they had more joy. The seats were first to come first served so early birds could choose a preferable one compared to others. The viewers were from a different group of ages, from the youngsters to elders because performances do not require any age limit. I personally could see Koreans enjoying language-less performance ‘Prague Spring 2019 Opening Concert: MyCountry; Live Recording. So the Prague Spring is a classical music festival held in Prague, Czech Republic. Each year in Prague the festival is joined by world-renowned symphony orchestras and chamber orchestras. Held in memory of the Czech composer Bedrich Smetana, the festival opens with a performance ofSmetana’s symphonic poem ‘My Country’ on his day of passing, May 12th, followed by three weeks of musical festivities all across the country.

On May 19th, Big Door Cinema held ‘Les Miserables in Concert: The 25th Anniversary. Based on vector Hugo’s novel of the same name, the musical Les Misérablescelebrateslife and human dignity through the story of Jean Valjean, a convict who struggles for redemption in the dismal atmosphere of 19th-century France and the turmoil of the French Revolution.
At the ACC Big Door Cinema, people enjoyed the live recording of the hit musical"s 25th-anniversary performance on an ultra-large screen.

Here are the following months’ performances:

July 5th: In this multi-genre concert, filmmaker Kim Taeyongpresents a contemporary re-imagination of Turning Point of the Youngsters, the oldest surviving in Korea that won the status of cultural heritage.

July 6th: Enjoy Singin" in the Rain, a cinema classic that inspired numerous plays and musicals that followed, and the retro sound of our special guest The Barberettes.

September12th: In this talk concert, filmmaker Nam Moosung sits for a talk with the Korean Jazz First Generation Band. Nam helmed Bravo! Jazz Life, a documentary about Korea’s first-generation jazz musicians.

September13th: Whiplash is a striking debut film from DamienChazelle, who reprised his success with his second film, La La Land. Prepare for 100 minutes of white-knuckle thrills! And wait around after the film for a special concert by the Whiplash Project Band.

If you have time on any of these days, come to ACC Theater 1 to enjoy the live performance on a big screen with your loved ones and friends. Bring some snacks or blankets to have more joy!
