Deadline: May 12th(Fri) 18:00, 2023 (KST)
Asia Culture Center (hereafter “ACC”) offers a visiting researcher program with the aim to support Asia culture researchers at home and abroad to ensure production of relevant research outcomes in the humanities and broaden cultural horizons.
This program will take place from June 1st through December 1st, 2023. In November, exchanges among the participants will be enhanced via participation in ACC international academic events, while offering opportunities to enhance the expertise of researchers and encourage follow-up research.
ACC looks forward to the interest and participation of researchers who share our vision of having a fresh perspective on Asia and in fostering its cultural diversity.
1. Program Overview

General Qualifications
  • 1)Minimum 10 years of experience after obtaining a doctoral degree or experience of 5 or more years following an assistant professorship at a university
  • 2)Published 5 or more academic achievements as detailed below in the last 5 years (since Jan 1,2018)
< Evaluation criteria for research achievements>
  • Journal articles: paper published in SSCI, A&HCI, SCOPUS or other equivalent journals, or in journals listed or candidates for listing by the National Research Foundation of Korea are counted as 1 achievement (including co-authored works)
  • Publications (books or translations): ingle author counted as 3, co-authored as 2 achievements
< Basic qualifications>
  • Candidate must be able to communicate in English or Korean.
  • The selected researchers should stay during the period of ACC international academic event in Korea. A non-Korean researcher must hold a valid visa during that period. (The exact period will be notified later.)
  • ※ For domestic applicants, the designation of full-time instructor was abolished following the revision of the Higher Education Act (July 21, 2011). Full-time instructors under previous regulations are currently regarded as assistant professors by the same Act.
2. Support and Benefits
  • Research grant: publication fee of up to KRW 4 million (including taxes)
  • Initial fee of KRW 1 million to start research after signing contract
    Remaining fee paid after taking part in the international academic event and submitting the final thesis
  • Fees for publications in excess of the maximum quantity will not be provided.
  • Expenses other than the publication fee, such as travel expenses for surveying, shall not be covered.
  • Unless in the case of the non-performance of contractual obligations by a party due to reasons of force majeure, fees shall be paid only partially for not fulfilling the requirements for international academic events or filming of interviews
    (partial payments may deduct 10~30% of the total amount depending on the degree of non-performance of the breached obligations.).
  • One round-trip airfare (economy class) and accommodation costs (3-nights, 4-day trip) for attending international academic events
  • While flight schedules may be adjusted, accommodation during attendance at an international academic event in excess of a 3-night, 4-day period will not be covered.
  • Any Korean who has been residing outside Korea for 1 year or more can be supported for airfare when submitting required documentation, such as a copy of the relevant immigration certificate.
  • Documents required for entry to Korea must be provided. ACC shall not be liable for refusal of entry due to an inadmissibility decision.
  • While ACC can provide support for the documents and services required for issuing a new visa, it will not be liable for any issues that may arise in relation to the changing, re-issuing, or extending of an existing visa.
3. Responsibilities
  • Attend the international academic event (planned in November) as a presenter and submit a final research article by September 30th (Saturday)

4. Documents to be Submitted
  • 1 copy of the application letter: template provided in 【Appendix 1】
  • 1 copy of the letter of recommendation: template provided in 【Appendix 2】
  • ※ Letters of recommendation shall be prepared, signed, and sent in PDF format by the recommender to jaeyeon2@korea.kr
  • Relevant documents: graduate certificate of final education institution, certificate of career experience, certificate of employment, published articles.
  • ※ A Non-Korean shall submit a copy of his/her passport and resident card(the holder only).
  • ※ Files of up to 50MB may be attached and uploaded.
  • ※ Submitted documents will not be returned.
5. Submission Timeline and Method
  • Application period: Applications are to be submitted between April 17th(Mon) ~ May 12th(Fri) 18:00 (KST)
  • Submission process: Download the application template from the website and submit via email to jaeyeon2@korea.kr.
  • ※ Submissions are only possible via email. You shall neither apply via mail nor directly to the admissionoffice.
     
6. Selection Process
  • Step 1 Document evaluation and screening (submitted documents, including research proposal)
  • Step 2 Evaluation by review committee (shortlisted candidates from step 1)
  • ※ When the number of applicants is lower than 3 times the number of final candidates, step 1 shall be Exempted and only step 2 shall apply.
  • Evaluation criteria: Selection will be based on a comprehensive review of the research topic, which shall be optimal for delivering ACC fellowship research, ensure the excellence, creativity, and future applicability of the research, and the expertise of the researcher.

7. Announcement
  • Final candidates shall be announced via the ACC website.
  • Announcement date: May 24th (Wed), 2023
  • ※ The above schedule may be subject to change by ACC.
  • ※ Whereby responses are not provided by the selected candidates within 5 days of the announcement, opportunities will be passed on to the subsequent candidates.
8. Notices
  • Applicants shall be disqualified for any of the following:
  • when having received support from another institution for the same research
  • when participating in or receiving support from a residency program of another institution within the same program duration
  • Any intentional omissions or false statements in the submitted documents may result in disadvantageous outcomes, including the revocation of selection.
  • ntellectual property rights, including adaptation rights, for the research outcomes shall be jointly retained by the research fellow and ACC
  • The outcome of this program will be published as a series of reports under the title Crossing Asia. It will also be posted on the ACC archive website for free download.
  • Any other matters relating to the rights for the research outcomes, including copyrights, should be decided in accordance with the contract.
  • The candidate shall be liable for resolving all intellectual property conflicts and disputes with any third party.
