About
2023 ACC Choice
HIP HOP

<HIP HOP> represents an artistic world that reflects the current generation under three different themes by three choreographers.
“Mechanism” introduced by Lee Jae-yeong displays humans inside small and large systems, and how they live and sometimes restrain to the systems.

“Unprotected” introduced by Jeong Cheol-in showcases how unique acts and rebellious thoughts can recreate something new.
“Wave” introduced by Ji Gyeong-min features the experimental spirit of hip-hop: the moves of hip-hop dance and how the motions convey wave-like naturality.
Choreographer Lee Jae-yeong
“Everything in this world is in a system.
The universe, Earth, civilization, society, and human beings inside them each are a system. “
Based on his outstanding background as an artistic director and ability to expand his artistic world through collaboration with different genres, choreographer Lee Jae-yeong (Company SIGA) will showcase his new work “Mechanism.”

“Mechanism” displays humans inside small and large systems in the universe, Earth, civilization, and society, and how they live and sometimes restrain to the systems.
Choreographer Jeong Cheol-in
“Our road that experiments the moments of making choices through movements
and where dynamic pleasure and risks coexist. “
Choreographer Jeong Cheol-in (Melancholy Dance Company) expresses the dance theme through excellent choices of props and powerful movements. Through his new work “Unprotected,” Jeong experiments what barriers can be brought down with humans’ attempts to dismantle the rules of this generation. The dance opens discussions on how unique acts and rebellious thoughts can be seen as something new.

The stage is filled with movements that represent the dangerous and unpredictable situations through the various incidents and accidents that happen on roads.
Choreographer Ji Gyeong-min
“I imagine the breeze passing by every parts of my body as I take one step at a time.
The way it flows and the way it swells is pretty much like a wave.”
Ji Gyeong-min (Goblin Party) is renowned in Korea, England, Italy, and Czechia for his traditional choreography combined with contemporary imagination.

His latest work “Wave” features vertical movements of hip-hop dance combined with the choreographer’s experimental spirit on maximizing naturalism.
See the irreplaceable “hipness” created by naturalism.
