《Connectivity Construction》

We can observe Asian architecture and society through the language of art. This exhibition brings attention to the meaning of shared creation and the power of community. Just like the materials touch, connect, and build upon each other in a building, we, too, live by touching, connecting, and building relationships with one another, embedding metaphorical meaning in “building.”

Urbanscape: Connectivity and Coexistence
Asia Culture Center’s (ACC) convergent exhibition Connectivity Construction, held at Space 2, ACC Creation, is derived from ACC’s main theme of the year—urban culture. While visualizing and presenting the contemporary languages of artists from Korea and abroad, the exhibition explores the common make up of urban spaces—the “coexistence of architecture.”
The exhibition consists of sculptures that convey the “construction” of architecture and “coexistence” of space and time from the context of “connectivity.” Stories of harmony in the city, stacked upon the continuity of time, emerge from the participating artists’ convergent ideas, highlighting the characteristic spatial properties of the Imaginary Circle and Curve in Space 2 of ACC Creation.

Connectivity Construction springs from the question, “What visual commonalities or similarities are found in the urban landscapes of Asia?” For example, the old structures of Gwanghwamun Gate coexist with the modern architecture standing in front, creating harmony in Seoul’s personality. Such landscapes are not limited to Seoul.
The myriad traditional architecture and spaces in Korea and other regions that adhere to Asian ideologies create an unusual existence and unique coexistence upon the continuity of time.

In our discussions of traditional and modern forms, how clearly can we distinguish between the past and the present? It seems only natural to ponder on the concept of tradition and modernity when we discuss “being together” in the flow of time. This endless flow and the content within are cues for reflecting on the meaning of coexistence.

“Tradition” is an image of the past that the present wishes to remember and continue. “Harmony,” pervading or accompanying the flow of tradition, could be the image of the present that we call “modernity;” these diverse harmonies create coexistence.
The value of coexistence, where two or more objects or phenomena exist in a mutual relationship, is expressed through the convergence of analog and digital elements and the blending of lines, planes, and spaces in Connectivity Construction.
Just as materials touch, connect, and stack upon each other in architecture, we touch, connect, and build upon each other to create a world where we can live together. This aesthetic experience provided by this exhibition hopes to highlight the significance of that connection.
