Introduction
ACC Choice
FOOD
Why do we eat? What do we eat? Where does the food we eat come from?
At the heart of the performance stage lies a colossal dinner table encircled by the audience. “FOOD” is a dinner party performance that delves into the nuances of why and how we eat, engaging our olfactory, gustatory, and tactile sensations.

With a flavor that combines rigorous design, onstage magic, and subtle humor to create a participatory experience that probes into our interactions with food, “FOOD” is a fresh creation from Geoff Sobelle, an American actor, producer, and innovator. Imagine a landscape where a herd of bison, initially hidden by a wheat field, is gradually obscured by dust, and then buried under railroad tracks, roads, crops, corporations, farms, factories, and supermarkets. This progression from natural to manufactured environments symbolizes how everything originates from the soil and eventually finds its way into our kitchens, onto our plates, and into our bodies. The performance invites the audience to explore their place within this theatrical exploration of food and consumption.

“FOOD” is the third part of a performance trilogy that explores the mundanity of mundane topics. Each installment—The Object Lesson (2013), HOME (2017), and FOOD (2022)—encourages the audience to ponder their personal connections with objects, spaces, and food. Following its acclaimed selection as an invited work for the Edinburgh International Festival, one of the globe’s most prestigious performing arts festivals, “FOOD” sold out performances in 2023. It is set to make its Asian debut in Korea through the Asia Culture Center, continuing to captivate audiences with its insightful narrative on our culinary experiences.
